Raj Patara is a dedicated community leader, parent, volunteer, and advocate who has proudly called Abbotsford home for the past 15 years. With more than 29 years of experience in leadership, governance, public service, healthcare, government relations, and the non-profit sector, she has built a reputation for bringing people together and creating positive change in the communities she serves.

Professionally, Raj works as a Senior Development Officer with Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), where she leads fundraising and partnership initiatives across British Columbia and Yukon. Throughout her career, she has worked with businesses, community organizations, all levels of political government, and volunteers to strengthen communities and improve the lives of others.

Raj has a long history of volunteer leadership. She has served as President and Director of the Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce, Director of the Abbotsford-Matsqui Rotary Club, and has been actively involved with Parent Advisory Councils (PACs), community fundraising initiatives, and numerous local organizations. Her commitment to service has always been driven by a belief that strong communities are built through collaboration, respect, and meaningful engagement.

As a parent of a daughter attending Abbotsford schools, Raj understands the importance of creating learning environments where every student feels safe, supported, and inspired to succeed. This firsthand experience has motivated her to seek a position as an Abbotsford School Board Trustee in the October 2026 municipal election.

Raj’s priorities include supporting student well-being, strengthening literacy and numeracy outcomes, encouraging parent and community engagement, and ensuring accountability and transparency in educational decision-making. She believes strong schools are built through partnerships between students, families, educators, and the broader community.

Outside of her professional and volunteer commitments, Raj enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and connecting with people from all walks of life.

Raj is committed to listening, learning, and working together to help every student reach their full potential and ensure Abbotsford schools continue to thrive for generations to come.
