Abbotsford, BC – June 15, 2026 – The Abbotsford Community Response Network (CRN), a member of the British Columbia Association of Community Response Networks (BCCRN), proudly celebrated World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) in Abbotsford for the first time on June 15, bringing together community members, service providers, and local organizations to raise awareness and support older adults.
Observed annually on June 15, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day promotes the dignity, rights, and well-being of older adults while increasing awareness of abuse, neglect, and discrimination. This year’s theme, “Be Bold – Age with Attitude,” highlighted the strength, wisdom, and resilience of older adults and their right to live safely and with respect.

The event featured educational resources, information sharing, and community discussions focused on recognizing, preventing, and responding to elder abuse. Participants learned about warning signs of abuse, available support services, and ways to help create safer and more inclusive communities for older adults.
“World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is an opportunity to bring our community together to celebrate older adults and raise awareness about abuse and neglect,” said Manjit Thind, Coordinator of the Abbotsford Community Response Network. “By working together, we can ensure older adults are treated with dignity, respect, and care, and that those experiencing abuse know where to turn for help.”

The Abbotsford Community Response Network thanks all community partners, organizations, and attendees who contributed to the success of this inaugural event.
