Planted with intention and designed as a vibrant canvas, Lakeland Flowers opens on April 13th. Over 35 acres and hundreds of shades of colour will bloom in early April. Guests are encouraged to wander within the rows, experiencing the flow and connection.

“The year-long planning builds up to this very moment. To walk around the festival, connect with our guests, and see them smiling is why we do this. We have met so many people visiting the Fraser Valley, from the United States to South Africa, with attendance increasing by 50% year over year, surpassing 100,000 visitors last season. It’s humbling but incredible to be a part of their story,” says Nick Warmerdam, farmer and owner of Lakeland Flowers.

Extending the living art beyond the fields, the festival experience includes music and live painting. Baby grand pianos sit throughout the fields for guests to play, and on Thursdays pianist Brenda Cottrill performs live from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. On select Fridays, local artists are scheduled for live painting and face painting stations are available on weekends.

Photo opportunities include golden pathways as a play on the ‘yellow brick road’, canoes, bicycles, and swings to sit in, along with a tribute to the Warmerdam heritage, giant klompen (Dutch shoes) and a schoenen winkel (Dutch shoe store). The Abbotsford Tulip Festival is set to close on May 3rd, but the date may be extended based on the weather pattern. For three weeks, acres of tulips and wildflowers will be in bloom, followed by peonies, lupins, more wildflowers, and lavender with July 1st being the final day of the entire season.

Lakeland Flowers is located on the unceded territory of the Semá:th First Nation. Flower farming runs deeply within the Warmerdam family, beginning with Peter Warmerdam in the 1950s, his son Nick in the 1980s, and Nick’s children from the 2000s and on. Nick’s farming background began with field-grown cut daffodils, gladiolas, peonies, and tulips before diversifying into greenhouse-grown tulips. Over the 50 plus years Lakeland Flowers has operated, it has grown and sold millions of freshcut flowers across Canada and the US. Today, the Warmerdams continue to grow and sell commercial tulips and peonies.
