Shirley WILSON Stands for Abbotsford and For You

Shirley Wilson’s platform stands for: Responsible Fiscal Accountability, Safe Streets and Crime Reduction, Community Unity and Support, Economically Sustainable Infrastructure and Development, and New and Expanded Recreational and Sporting Sites.

With 21 years of experience, Wilson brings knowledge of fiscal oversight and the taxpayer purse.

Working with the provincial government on funding, Wilson has demonstrated that in Abbotsford we can bring new initiatives and capital, stay within budget, and still deliver services. Fiscally conservative.

As an experienced leader Wilson has worked directly with provincial and federal leaders, Indigenous leaders, and alongside her colleagues on council. Whether it be conversations on human resources and labour relations, health care, education, brain injury and substance use, joint use of spaces, the unhoused, or simply just tweaking policy, Wilson has been either the lead or involved.

Wilson has built transparency and accountability into everything she does. Confidentiality, which each constituent is entitled to, is a key aspect of all government work. Transparency where possible, without breaching legal obligations, is important for all areas of any government work.

Ensuring that residents have access to recreational spaces is key but with the limited and outdated facilities and fields we need to bring a thoughtful balanced approach to building these assets. Wilson knows that having safe recreational and community spaces is good for everyone, no matter their age.

” Sometimes we save, sometimes we spend, and sometimes, just like keeping our homes updated, we may have to borrow”, Wilson reflects when asked her thoughts. “We have to be careful, this is the taxpayers’ dollars, and it should be treated carefully.”

Reflecting on safety and street disorder, Wilson states, “each person needs to feel protected and safe. We need to have unity in community and watch out for each other. We should not let our differences separate us, but rather these should unite us.”

She also shares that keeping people busy – sports, recreation, arts, team activities, personal health, social activities – keeps them safe and with places to gather.
