Shirley Wilson Bio

WILSON, Shirley

City of Abbotsford Municipal City Council Candidate

Standing for Council,
Standing for Abbotsford,
Standing for you.

Wilson is a long serving elected trustee in Abbotsford, elected in Nov 2005, having served Abbotsford with care, compassion, and a strong voice for families. After 20+ years in public service at the Board of Education supporting children, youth, and the broader community she recognizes the diversity and unity in our city.  We are a strong collective of charity and commerce creating opportunity for everyone who lives here, and for those who want to live here.

Serving at the city level, demonstrating the same trust, competence, and dedication that she has brought to our community for over two decades at the board table is her opportunity to contribute beyond the education of Abbotsford’s young people. It is her belief that the people here, and the people who want to be here, bring so much value to the success of others.

Wilson has worked in the charitable non-profit sector professionally for 23 years and volunteered for much longer than that. Whether working to support families, youth, or health and safety, she always puts the organization ahead of herself recognizing that individuals can make a positive difference and together we can create a constructive force for safe spaces to be who we are and who we can be.

Married to Larry, her best husband, and Mom to Maddi, Wilson has called Abbotsford home since 1994, raising her family here.  Wilson’s son Jacob passed at age 24 in 2021.  His passing has created her strong passion for change at all levels of government around brain injury, substance use, and marginalized populations. Her commitment to the public and the greater good goes beyond social issues and includes finding solutions for where Abbotsford is headed and what it needs as we grow,
